Episode Transcript
[00:00:07] Speaker A: Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Mouse Ears podcast where we talk about all things travel, but mostly Disney. Brought to you by fairy Tale Journeys Travel.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Welcome back to the Mousers podcast. I am your host, Brooks, and it is guys night here on the Mouse Ears podcast. It has been forever since we've had a guys night, but with me is my partner in this podcast world, my right hand man, my main man. No, I'm not talking about Mickey Mouse. I'm talking about the man in the great state of Texas, Kelton. Kelton, how are you doing?
[00:00:50] Speaker A: Howdy, Brooks. How you doing, man?
[00:00:53] Speaker B: I'm doing well. And Heidi ho, neighbor. Steph, you will never steal that from me again. Anyway, like we said, it is God's night. And with it being guys night, you know, we're going to talk about, you know, the menly, menliest of topics. The machismo, the macho king. Oh, yeah.
[00:01:18] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: You know, we're going to talk about Christmas movies tonight.
[00:01:24] Speaker A: But not just any Christmas movies though, right? Like, we're not narrowing it down.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: So we are talking about. So we were discussing this before. Our original idea was to try to make up the mount the ultimate mouse ears top 10 Christmas movies. However, when we started going through it, we realized very quickly we need to share our own and at least maybe for me, defend some of our choices.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I have questions on why some of yours are so far down the list.
[00:02:00] Speaker B: I mean, we'll get to that.
[00:02:04] Speaker A: It is very different. We were very different.
[00:02:08] Speaker B: We were. We were extremely different.
But before we get to all that, if this is your first time watching us or if this is your 74th time listening or watching us, you know, welcome. If you're watching us on YouTube, help us spread more magic. And if you love all things travel, but mostly Disney, click that, like, button, subscribe to our channel and smash that little bell for your VIP pass to be notified for every new episode.
But before we get into our Christmas list, our watch list for 2024, we need to get into the new news. And we are. We are. Wait a minute, hold on. I have breaking news here.
We are bringing it over to Kelton over there in the Texas studio. Kelton new news.
[00:03:24] Speaker A: Well, thank you, Brooks. I tried to do the spin it. It doesn't work when you have a cord and need to listen to the music to cue things.
[00:03:30] Speaker B: That's why I got rid of the cord.
[00:03:32] Speaker A: I should go back to my wireless headphones. Absolutely. All right, here we go. We got some great stuff out there. It's short, it's sweet to the point we've got a great episode to get to. Here we go. Disney Cruise Line has a great sale. See what I did there? Not the other sale, but that sale going on where right now you only have to pay half of your deposit at the time of booking or select sailings on Disney Cruise Line. And this is going to tie into the next piece of new news. But I got to talk about it now anyway. However, when this drops, it's already going to be going to be too late. But the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line's newest ship left Port Canaveral again today being December 12th on a three night preview. We were lucky enough to have one of our very own Steph from the Mousers blog and podcast on board with two other fantastic people that you guys have seen here. That is right. She's back. But not here, but on the ship. The Queen of DCL herself, Laura Greco, along with Fairy Tale journeys by Rachel. Rachel was on of course for a.
[00:04:51] Speaker B: Disneyland Paris episode season back in season one.
[00:04:55] Speaker A: That was a long time ago.
[00:04:58] Speaker B: That was.
[00:04:58] Speaker A: We have aged since then.
[00:05:00] Speaker B: We have, we have grown.
[00:05:03] Speaker A: I, I probably shrunk. I just kind of, you know, I bad posture.
[00:05:07] Speaker B: Shrunk. I hope I've shrunk.
[00:05:09] Speaker A: It's the holidays. I'm not shrinking that way this, this time. I'm telling you that. Oh my God.
[00:05:16] Speaker B: I had a nice cup of hot cocoa earlier tonight.
[00:05:19] Speaker A: Oh that sounds so delicious.
[00:05:22] Speaker B: So hopefully speaking, yeah, speaking of the treasure, if you want more info on it, please take a listen to our previous episode where we had Laura Greco of course the Queen of dcl and also first time guest Sarah Ernenwein where they got to go to the christen, go to New York for the christening of the treasure and also get the tour. They on their socials, they have some amazing videos. Sarah's constantly posting stuff from that trip and that was only they only had a few hours on that ship.
[00:06:07] Speaker A: Barely any time.
[00:06:10] Speaker B: If you want more info on the treasure, go listen to that episode and also stay tuned to Mouse Ears blog because I'm sure Stephanie is going to have a great article.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: Oh yeah, she's gonna have some good stuff coming up. This last one here as always we all know is near and dear to my heart. Loyal to Royal Baby. Royal Caribbean's hashtag Royal Beach Club. That's right, we are keeping it loyal to Rollo. So the Royal Caribbean Beach Club in Nassau, Bahamas is going to be opening up sometime in December of 2025. But I was just on their website, you know, earlier today they got some great things. I mean, they've got pools, unlimited food, cocktails, beaches, live music, more food because that's what you need on vacation to begin with. But all of this, it is unfortunate, but we'll have to see what happens. Currently, it is considered an excursion, so it will require a day pass just like some of the other resorts down there in Nassau.
That's all I have for the new news. So we're going to go back to the desk.
[00:07:33] Speaker B: Well, thank you, Kelton.
That was wonderful. But we're going to pivot over to trivia with our trivia master, Kelton.
[00:07:48] Speaker A: I'm back.
[00:07:49] Speaker B: Tonight's trivia. Yes. When you have you wear mini hats.

I tell you, this episode is going.
[00:12:45] Speaker A: To be a mess.
Kylie, we spared no expense. If you're zero, I brought Mickey in for this one, too.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: Yes. I mean, you're putting, you're putting me to shame here.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: I was expecting, you know, Bluey to be in the corner over there, but Bluey is.
[00:13:04] Speaker B: He has a lantern. Jack O lantern. I don't have a Christmas Louie.
[00:13:09] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oh, well, that's okay. Yeah, the after Christmas sales are coming.
[00:13:16] Speaker B: That's right.
[00:13:17] Speaker A: So we got to get into this.
[00:13:20] Speaker B: We do. So again, we are talking about our top 10 movies to watch during the Christmas season. Our top 10 Christmas movies.
However, before we get into that, we're going to play just a little game real quick.
As we were going through this list, trying to come up with our top tens, there were some movies that, dare I say, are controversial.
They split the Christmas fandom on whether or not they are Christmas movies.
So we thought it'd Be fun to kind of go back and forth real quick on a couple of these and decide whether or not they are Christmas movies. So Kelton, number one, and this one's actually a two parter. Is it Nightmare Before Christmas? Is it a Halloween movie? Is it a Christmas movie? Is it both?
[00:14:24] Speaker A: Could it be neither?
[00:14:27] Speaker B: I hadn't heard that. I've heard either Halloween or Christmas.
[00:14:31] Speaker A: I will say so. Not one of my favorite movies really. And I don't watch it at all because to be honest, Jack Skellington kind of creeps me out a little bit. But I would have to go. Brooks. It is both.
[00:14:46] Speaker B: What do you think?
I would agree that it's both. You can watch it either Halloween or Christmas. Um, it's not one of my favorite. It's not one of my favorites either. And it's not that, you know, some people say, well, Tim Burton isn't really for everyone. I wouldn't say it's because it's a Tim Burton movie. I think it's very beautifully.
[00:15:12] Speaker A: Done, put together. Great music. Oh yeah, great music.
[00:15:16] Speaker B: I mean, is it Ken Pa. Was a Ken Page for Oogie Boogie.
[00:15:23] Speaker A: I'm not very good with actors and.
[00:15:25] Speaker B: Or actresses, but who. The actor that played Oogie Boogie. Phenomenal.
I mean really, they. They had a good cast with the voices and everything is.
I don't know it.
I. I'll watch it, but it's not one that I'm like, oh, I have to watch it. So a little bit, maybe a little bit of a spoiler of a movie that is not in my top 10.
So next up. And I.
I really didn't think about this one as not a Christmas movie. I will say, but Home Alone.
Is that a Christmas movie?
[00:16:03] Speaker A: See, I think it's a Christmas movie.
[00:16:07] Speaker B: See, I think so too.
[00:16:08] Speaker A: There's Christmas lights around.
[00:16:10] Speaker B: Yes, it happens during Christmas.
[00:16:14] Speaker A: Now what you have to remember though is that might during Christmas is different for everybody. Like if you're like Casey and I, Christmas starts at like, you know, 9:00 on Halloween, so. And goes to like her birthday, which is early January.
[00:16:33] Speaker B: Yeah, but I mean that one is literally set during the week.
[00:16:37] Speaker A: The Christmas. Yeah.
[00:16:38] Speaker B: Of Christmas. I mean, they're. I mean, I want to know what the McAllister father does for a living to afford to take his entire family to Paris for Christmas.
[00:16:49] Speaker A: Brooks, what do you think? Is it a Christmas movie or no?
[00:16:52] Speaker B: Yes, I say it's definitely a Christmas movie. So a little fun fact, a couple of years ago, actually a few years ago, Kelsey, myself, my brother My mom, I think Neoma went with us too. But we went and saw Home Alone at the Atlanta Symphony, and they basically, they played the. They had a projector. They played the Home Alone movie, but the Atlanta Symphony played the music, the soundtrack and the music during the movie. And like, they even had the children's choir come out and sing.
[00:17:39] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh.
[00:17:40] Speaker B: It's the only way to watch a movie, apparently.
[00:17:44] Speaker A: That sounds awesome.
[00:17:46] Speaker B: They do a bunch of them like that.
They've. They've done all the Star wars movies.
[00:17:51] Speaker A: I was gonna say, can we go see Star Wars?
[00:17:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:54] Speaker A: You know, really, if Christian Hayden comes walking out. Like, come on.
[00:18:01] Speaker B: So actually, a little fun fact. When I was a.
Yeah. Senior in high school, for our Christmas concert, we sang Duel of the Fates.
[00:18:14] Speaker A: Nice.
So, yeah, that's awesome.
[00:18:18] Speaker B: Basically, like, having to get the pronunciation of the words. And we had two guys come out with lightsaber. With lightsabers.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: That's perfect.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: But lastly. And I saved this one purposely for last.
[00:18:33] Speaker A: Everybody probably knows what it is because.
[00:18:35] Speaker B: I feel like this is the one that most people will like. It's a. They would die on this hill, maybe. So Die Hard.
Is it a Christmas movie? It. Again, it does take place during Christmas.
Is that a Christmas that everything happens at a Christmas office party?
[00:19:00] Speaker A: I'm telling you, I'm going to be straight, and I'm sorry if I offend some people.
Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
[00:19:08] Speaker B: Oh, okay. I was. I was about to.
[00:19:11] Speaker A: Were you. Were you about to test this friendship and have it just be over?
[00:19:17] Speaker B: So I.
So I've always gone back and forth.
Does the. Does the setting create a Christmas movie?
I feel like that can be somewhat debatable. However, I've. I heard someone. I think it was just like a parody talking about this debate. And basically I think of the themes, family, togetherness.
It's like they, like, they just basically they convinced me in the parody that they were doing. And it's like, yeah, Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
I love it because John. John McClane is trying to get together with his family for Christmas. And there's several movies that have that same notion.
[00:20:16] Speaker A: So.
[00:20:18] Speaker B: And all time classic. I'll Be Home for Christmas with JTT Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
[00:20:24] Speaker A: See, and that's what I know. People just need to stop hating on Die Hard. Okay. You know, Die Hard has the same type of storyline, like every single movie on the Hallmark Channel that runs all year long.
So it just is. I mean, Die Hard should just be on the Hallmark Channel, too, to begin with. But, you know, but There. There you have it. I mean, Home Alone Christmas movie, Die Hard Christmas movie, Nightmare Before Christmas.
Oh, you heard it here. And that is a hill I will die on.
[00:21:03] Speaker B: BO See, I make my own.
[00:21:08] Speaker A: We don't need no sound effects because we're going.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: We don't need sound boards.
I do like my soundboard, though.
[00:21:17] Speaker A: We got to get a soundboard. Like an actual, like, push button one. It's maybe in the budget for season.
[00:21:22] Speaker B: Four or five, so. All right, so now that we've gone through our controversial OR picks, now I feel like we're going to get even more into controversial picks.
[00:21:37] Speaker A: It's going to get rough, people.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: At least maybe mine.
So before we get into our talk, are we going to do honorable mentions quickly or are we going to save those till I don't have any?
[00:21:49] Speaker A: So go ahead, go. I put my honorable mention to my. I had it in the top 10. Then it was going to be all the Hallmark, you know, movies, Christmas movies, but go for it. What's your honorable mentions?
[00:22:01] Speaker B: 70 of them with a 5 actress, pretty much.
So I had two honorable mentions.
One is Last Christmas, and I can't even think of the two main actors in it. One's from Game of Thrones.
In the other one, I can't think of his name. He was saying crazy rich Asians.
[00:22:32] Speaker A: Yes, I love him.
[00:22:33] Speaker B: Anyway. Yeah, anyway, that movie, I'm not going to spoil it for people, but there was. There is a twist in that movie that I did not expect that it.
When that. When that twist happened, I was like, whoa, I did not see that one coming.
So they're all good aliens. No, I'm kidding.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: They're all aliens.
[00:23:03] Speaker B: And then my other honorable mention, which I feel like might upset some people. And so I'll just preface it with this.
I didn't realize, number one, how many Christmas movies there are. Hallmark excluded. Hallmark excluded.
But there are a ton of Christmas movies, and there are a ton of good Christmas movies. There are movies that I did not list in my top 10 that if I see it on, I will just stop and watch because I'm like, I. I know it's a good movie.
[00:23:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:23:43] Speaker B: So. But my other honorable mention. And again, I. I love this movie. I look forward to introducing it to Ellie this year. But a Charlie Brown Christmas is a classic. I feel like it's a. The definition of a classic.
[00:24:02] Speaker A: Well, it is. I mean, not to say that, you know, people who were born in that generation are, you know, classics, but 1965 is when that movie came out, and that is crazy. One of. One of the greatest.
Probably one of the great. Even though it's not very high on my list. Spoiler on that one. So no. Great pick.
Great pick for honorable mention. It was hard.
[00:24:30] Speaker B: It.
[00:24:31] Speaker A: Now, before we dive in to the, you know, our top 10 on this, I sent you the website that I was looking at, and I want to tell the people, y'all, this website I found, whoever ranked it was straight. It was just. It was. I disagree with about 85% of this list. Who put the Harry Potter movies on this list? Those are not Christmas movies.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: Okay, but did you. Did you also notice where. I'm sorry, but did you also notice where that came from?17.com.
[00:25:15] Speaker A: Okay, I picked a bad website.
My bad. So obviously we were looking at that.
[00:25:22] Speaker B: List, and I'm just like, what?
[00:25:25] Speaker A: False. What?
[00:25:27] Speaker B: Life size two Christmas Eve is in your top 40.
[00:25:33] Speaker A: I felt. I felt a lot like Dwight Schrute from the Office, scrolling through false, false, false, false. All right, well, let's go ahead and get into this top 10 that, I mean, we picked out now. We would have written this 17 article. It would have been correct. So, yes, let's do it to it.
[00:26:01] Speaker B: Do it to it, Lars.
All right, so do you want to start with your number 10?
[00:26:08] Speaker A: I do. All right, here we go. And one. Tell me if you've ever seen this movie. It's called Jack Frost with Michael Keaton.
[00:26:18] Speaker B: Great movie.
[00:26:19] Speaker A: For those that don't know, let me go back and find it here. Because this person on 17 had it in their top 20. I mean, it's a great movie, but, y'all, is it really top 20? Jack Frost, in a nutshell, a dad ended up passing away in a car accident and then gets reincarnated as a snowman.
Great movie. And it's one that I have not watched in probably 15 years, easily.
So when I saw it on here, I had to put it down. He had to put it down. That was my top 10.
So that's all I got for that one. Simple Jack Frost.
[00:27:03] Speaker B: That is a.
That is really a great movie. And it also, too, like Michael Keaton, I feel like at his height of Keatonism before he had his renaissance here. Yeah, 2000s. Which, when I talk about the Keatonism, like the peak of that. It's not a Christmas movie, but multiplicity. Have you ever seen that movie?
[00:27:30] Speaker A: I have not. Oh, I shall watch it now.
[00:27:35] Speaker B: That movie. Oh, that movie's hilarious. But anyway, it's also has that Jack Frost also has Kelly Preston in it.
And then.
Oh, man. One of the guys from A Knight's Tale.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: I can't think of the name.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: It was a Chubb, but it was great. Basically, Michael Keaton plays a musician and then plays a snowman.
So pretty much that's all you need in the trailer.
[00:28:10] Speaker A: Boom. Done.
[00:28:11] Speaker B: Yes.
All right, Brooks. Yeah.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: Let's do it.
[00:28:15] Speaker B: Yeah. My number 10.
And if you listen to our little controversial picks a little earlier, could be considered controversial, but I have home alone one is my number 10.
And just recently rewatched it and.
Great movie.
[00:28:35] Speaker A: Yeah, it. I mean, I think it's a. It's a solid pick.
It really. It really is. We all know it. Take. It definitely takes place Christmas time. Hello. This kid is going to war against two burglars to stand his ground in his home with a bunch of green army men. Jacks and, well, ended up flooding his neighbor's kitchen. I mean that sometimes that's just what you have to do. Still a great Christmas movie.
[00:29:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:29:09] Speaker A: I mean, John is it. John Candy plays the clarinet in the back of a, you know, a box truck.
[00:29:16] Speaker B: Oh, John Candy.
[00:29:18] Speaker A: Like, I mean it. Who the writers. Great job.
[00:29:23] Speaker B: Isn't that John Hughes? He isn't that John Hughes movie.
I could be. I could be wrong in that. I'm probably wrong in that. Um, I mean, I was just thinking Chicago and John Hughes. Um, but should we do this kind of snake style? Where.
Or are we going to go just back and forth?
[00:29:48] Speaker A: What do you mean, snake style? Like, I go. You go. You go. I go. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's fine.
[00:29:55] Speaker B: So. So for my number nine.
[00:29:58] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:30:02] Speaker B: Holiday classic. If you have TBS during Christmas time, I mean, during Christmas day, you will. You have probably watched this one or 20 times.
But it is a Christmas story I miss.
I mean, you may try out one. Yeah. You shoot your eye out. All right. Don't. I don't want to take a frozen pole.
[00:30:30] Speaker A: Oh, gosh, no. But I want to know the people of the monastery's universe. Does anybody have a leg lamp in their house somewhere?
[00:30:40] Speaker B: My brother actually has the ornament.
[00:30:44] Speaker A: The ornament. Okay. That would count.
Does anybody actually have the light? There is somebody in my neighborhood in their window. It is not a Christmas tree. Oh, no. It is the leg lamp from. Great movie. That's a great movie.
[00:31:00] Speaker B: Fragile. It must be Italian.
[00:31:05] Speaker A: Okay. I don't know how I'm gonna. I, you know, tell me if I can top that with this one right here.
I am not a fan. We've talked about it with different things going on in the. In the parks over in Orlando.
But it is still great. And I'm talking about the Muppet Christmas Carol.
It fantastic, right? I mean, you got. You got.
Oh, my gosh.
Find my blanking. Not Gonzo, but the rat.
[00:31:45] Speaker B: Rizzo.
[00:31:46] Speaker A: Rizzo. Rizzo. Yes. Rizzo. And every. You know, the. All dressed up for, like. For Hawaii, going to the Hawaiian Islands. And I'm like, there's. There's just something about it.
[00:31:58] Speaker B: I love the Muppet Gonzo playing Charles Dickens.
[00:32:04] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:32:04] Speaker B: And Rizzo the Rat playing Rizzo the Rat.
[00:32:09] Speaker A: I'm telling you, that's what. That's one of my favorite versions of. Of that. Because the Mickey Mouse version of A Christmas Carol just breaks my heart and makes me cry. Can't do it. I'll do the Muppet version, though, which.
[00:32:28] Speaker B: Again, going like creating this list.
There are so many my.
Of A Christmas Carol Scrooge. I mean, it's not in my top 10, but how great is Bill Murray's Scrooge?
[00:32:46] Speaker A: Oh, fancy. I forgot about that one. Fantastic.
[00:32:51] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:32:52] Speaker A: Oh, man.
[00:32:54] Speaker B: That's when he was also kind of at his height of Bill Murray.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. And that was right around the Ghostbusters time.
[00:33:02] Speaker B: And that was. That was playing Groundhog Day.
[00:33:04] Speaker A: Groundhog Day.
[00:33:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:06] Speaker A: Groundhog Day. Some days at work, I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day. So if we're stinking along here, I should be on my number eight.
[00:33:13] Speaker B: Eight.
[00:33:15] Speaker A: So my number eight. One of your honorable mentions. I love a Charlie Brown Christmas. I have not shown it to Kenny yet. At least I don't think Casey has shown it to him yet. Charlie Brown Christmas. And this one was. Yeah. Made 1965. We had said, great movie. It's just one of those.
This season has a lot of just butt time in the chair.
Go ahead and huddle, you know, cuddle with your loved ones, get that hot cocoa, spike it with, you know, some schnapps, and let's just kick on the movies.
[00:33:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:51] Speaker A: Because we got 20 great. Well, probably like 15 great movies here to watch. 18 if you count Die Hard in Nightmare Before Christmas and Home Alone.
[00:34:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Yes.
[00:34:01] Speaker A: I can't do math.
[00:34:04] Speaker B: All right, so I think now it's time for my number eight.
[00:34:07] Speaker A: That is your number eight.
[00:34:09] Speaker B: Yeah. So my number eight Disney classic, the Santa Claus with Tim Allen. The first one you put on sushi or the Big Guy that.
[00:34:26] Speaker A: See another. Another great Christmas movie.
[00:34:30] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah, it.
And I can't remember if I mentioned it because I know I mentioned it before we started recording, but if you go by holiday seasons, the amount of Christmas movies as Compared to any other season.
[00:34:51] Speaker A: Ginormous.
[00:34:52] Speaker B: Yeah. This is insane.
[00:34:57] Speaker A: Take that, Halloween.
[00:35:02] Speaker B: And I've heard someone say, too, can I please have Judy's hot cocoa recipe? I mean, it took her 1200 years to perfect it.
[00:35:12] Speaker A: I need. We need that. We need it like, asap.
[00:35:16] Speaker B: So. But moving right along, you know, sticking with classics for my number seven, you know, every time you hear teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel get his wings.
It's a Wonderful Life, you know that it's a classic.
I think that is our friend Peter Burkhart. I think that may be. That might be his favorite movie of all time. Him and Sarah's.
[00:35:57] Speaker A: That's great.
[00:36:00] Speaker B: I mean, it. It gets. It gets a little heavy there for a bit. Yeah.
So, no, I have found as I get older, I cry more.
[00:36:14] Speaker A: When it's when you have kids, man. It's when you have kids. No, I think that's a. That's a fantastic pick it. It's a Wonderful Life is an awesome movie, especially for this time of year.
[00:36:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:31] Speaker A: So. Oh, my. I almost coughed there for a second. That would have been real bad on the podcast. Would have had to edit that one out.
We're also going to stick with the classics here. For my number seven, 1964, we are going with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
[00:36:49] Speaker B: Oh, great movie.
[00:36:51] Speaker A: I. I always get so mad when we watch that because all the other reindeers bully Rudolph when all he wants to do is just play.
Breaks my heart, man.
We're getting emotional on this episode.
[00:37:07] Speaker B: And that other. And that other elf just wants to be a dentist.
[00:37:10] Speaker A: That's all he wanted to do.
[00:37:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:14] Speaker A: No, yeah. Don't always stick with your dreams.
Just build the toys, go be a dentist.
[00:37:24] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:37:25] Speaker A: Just play some reindeer games, man.
[00:37:28] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:37:33] Speaker A: Oh, okay. My number seven, 1964, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. We gotta move along before I start crying. So here we go. Now we're gonna move into this one, right? And I don't have the date here, so I have to quickly find it. But I'm talking about another classic, White Christmas. I'm telling you, Casey's grandmother would be so proud of me with some of the movies I have on here. Because, you know, she's all about a lot of these old Casey's all about all of these older movies. So White Christmas, you know, it came out in 1954. We moving back in time. I'm marking that on my list. 1954, the year. Fantastic movie.
Not too shabby.
[00:38:21] Speaker B: So.
All right, so moving right along, we're gonna go with. I Called this my Ellie pick for number six.
This is. This is a movie that Ellie has greatly gravitated to this season and in turn, Kelsey has greatly gravitated to at least three times a week. It is played in my house right now.
But it is one of the versions of the Grinch.
I think between the two of us, we'll have all three versions in our list. But it is the Illuminations version, so it's with Benedict Cumberbatch.
[00:39:09] Speaker A: Okay.
That is not one I've seen yet.
[00:39:13] Speaker B: So it. It really is a good movie. And it. So one thing with the original how the Dr. Seuss, how the Grinch Stole Christmas and then the how the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey, then this one, this Grinch, I feel like they all three kind of bring their own spins on the story.
So this one leans more into the. I would say more lightheartedness.
The Jim Carrey one leaned more into the comedy. But I don't know, not really lighthearted on some parts.
I mean, he was. When he was dropped off, he was left outside while his adoptive parents were having a key party.
I don't know that you really noticed that detail.
[00:40:11] Speaker A: We're not going to talk about that. Yeah, no, but see, the Jim Carrey version is so. It's so funny because I sit there and sometimes I'll quote it to Casey. She says, well, we're going.
We're gonna go out, you know, meet some friends at the bar right around the corner. And I look at her and go, but what will I wear?
[00:40:31] Speaker B: Oh, I was thinking I wanted to go. My schedule wanted to allow it.
[00:40:37] Speaker A: 4:00, Willow in self pity. 5:30, dinner with me. I can't cancel that again.
[00:40:46] Speaker B: 6:00, jazzer sauce. 7:00.
Solve world hunger.
[00:40:52] Speaker A: Tell no one.
See, there we go.
[00:40:58] Speaker B: But moving right along because we might talk about that movie a little more later. A little spoiler. But My Number five. So one thing we realized when we were talking about this, because again, we talked about originally making an ultimate list.
[00:41:14] Speaker A: Was not going to work.
[00:41:15] Speaker B: Kelton had more of the classics and I think because especially my viewings over the past few years have been more the newer ones, but my number five is movie. I think it came out maybe last year or the year before, but.
[00:41:34] Speaker A: Last year.
[00:41:35] Speaker B: Last year. But it's again, a version of the.
It's a spin on the Christmas Carol, Spirited with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell.
[00:41:47] Speaker A: I've heard fantastic things about this movie.
[00:41:50] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. So one thing with mine, and you'll kind of See it, I think with another movie later on. I'm big into like, if a muse, if a movie has a great soundtrack, it really, to me, really elevates the rewatch ability.
And spirited. I had that soundtrack on replay all last season.
[00:42:18] Speaker A: I do know it is good because Casey, I think, has watched it two or three times in the last week and a half. Last week or so. Yeah. She.
She's watched it a number of times already.
Plus it has Ryan Reynolds. I mean, why not?
[00:42:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:38] Speaker A: Deadpool. There we go.
[00:42:41] Speaker B: Is Deadpool Christmas movie.
No. Anyway, well, well, two Deadpool Tool is a family movie.
[00:42:51] Speaker A: It is a family movie.
Side note, have you seen Deadpool vs. Wolverine? Deadpool, Wolverine.
Great movie. All right, number five, here we go.
So we had just talked about it. It is not your version. It is not Jim Carrey's version, but I am talking about how the Grinch Stole Christmas, the animated one.
Now. Well, is it really animated or is it drawn? Like, how, how do you classify that?
[00:43:22] Speaker B: I mean, I would say hand drawn anime.
That is classically animated.
[00:43:26] Speaker A: That classic, classically animated.
It is one of the originals. I, I seem to have a hard time letting go of things in the past, like some of these classics.
So, I mean, that's when they're great. It's kind of hard to let go.
[00:43:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:47] Speaker A: Just, you know, leave us millennials alone.
That's all we want. It's just to be left alone.
But that's my number five. So now we're getting into the goods. Top five from my list. Top five was easy. It was the other five.
But my number four is a Christmas Story.
I say that, you know, just because it.
Talking about, you know, we're in the Christmas season, you know, he, you know, he's trying to decipher the code. Lord knows why in the bathroom. Who had a radio in their bathroom?
You know, to do all of it like it was, you know, getting the Red Rider BB gun.
Great movie. Just. We need a leg lamp.
[00:44:44] Speaker B: Well, I mean, you gotta, you gotta win that prize to get the leg lamp.
[00:44:49] Speaker A: I do. Freddie Lane must be Italian. Here we go, Brooks.
[00:44:56] Speaker B: All right.
[00:44:57] Speaker A: Down to the nitty gritty. Your top five.
[00:45:01] Speaker B: Well, top four because top four.
[00:45:03] Speaker A: You already did five.
[00:45:04] Speaker B: Yeah. So my number four, we're going to complete the Grinch trilogy. Yeah, so. So my number four is Jim Carrey's how the Grinch Stole Christmas.
And that one is purely for Jim Carrey.
8. Oh, man, that man outdid himself for that movie.
[00:45:36] Speaker A: Masterpiece.
[00:45:38] Speaker B: Yes, it is.
There's even, like, parts in that movie where.
So there's like a famous blooper in the movie that made it into the movie where he was supposed to went up to the table and he pulls the tablecloth and everything was supposed to fall, but he did it so well that he cleared the table and he improvised going back and knocking everything down.
[00:46:11] Speaker A: Sometimes you just have to let the actors. Like that.
[00:46:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:15] Speaker A: Let them do their thing.
[00:46:17] Speaker B: And then him imitating Ron Howard, you reject your own nose because it represents commercialism. Why did I think of that?
[00:46:29] Speaker A: Cup print.
[00:46:29] Speaker B: Take the cake. Moving on again, that that movie is so quotable, too.
[00:46:36] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. It really is that, you know, that, that, that's a good point.
What, what is your. Like, we need to ask the people to let us know what their favorite quote is. What is one line that you quote from the Jim Carrey version of the Grinch, how the Grinch told Christmas, however you want to call it.
[00:47:04] Speaker B: I mean, that. Speaking of famous Christmas movie quotes, there's. I feel like there's one that I've seen going around on TikTok. You know, we talked about all the Hallmark Christmas movies.
There are a couple that are fine to watch, but there, there are some that are tough, but there is one that it is absolutely ridiculous. And people, and people have, I mean, it's, there's nothing like, there's nothing bad in the quote, but it's just the length of it.
And, but it is as a guy asking a girl, asking a girl out or something. And he says, quote, I was wondering if the two, if you two were coming to the and this is the event's name, Pine Green Grove Town Square Christmas Eve Festival of Lights Christmas Tree Decorating Contest Finalist Gala.
[00:48:20] Speaker A: What?
[00:48:21] Speaker B: And it was said with a straight face.
[00:48:25] Speaker A: I would love to know how many takes that took.
[00:48:29] Speaker B: And the way he says it, I was wondering if you two were going to the p. Like he l say Pine Green Grove town Square. Chris, Ms. Eve Festival of Lights Christmas Tree Decorating Contest Fest finalist Gala tonight. Like.
[00:48:49] Speaker A: Just like something that comes up in normal conversation on a Tuesday afternoon at the water cooler.
[00:48:55] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, who else has, who else hasn't, you know, pondered if they're going to. I'm not saying it again.
[00:49:02] Speaker A: I was wondering if you were going to do it again.
[00:49:05] Speaker B: But anyway, moving on to our top three.
So my number three, I guarantee you, is not on your list, but it's one of those that has again come out on Netflix in the past couple. Netflix has stepped up their Christmas movie game in the past few years. They have Some that are good for the whole family. And there are some that are good for, I would say older people, maybe not suitable for all children.
But this one is Jingle Jangle.
[00:49:44] Speaker A: For some reason that name sounds familiar.
[00:49:47] Speaker B: So if you have not watched it, I highly recommend going to watch it.
The music in that movie is that, as Jim Rome would always say, phenomenal.
[00:50:02] Speaker A: Phenomenal.
[00:50:05] Speaker B: It has music. John Legend was a producer of the music in that film.
But you also have Princess Tiana herself. Oh, in that movie. In that movie, singing. Forest Whitaker singing.
You have Keenan from Keenan and Peele.
No, oh, not Keenan, but key of key and pill.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: Oh, yes.
[00:50:38] Speaker B: Keegan Key. He's in that movie and he sings and it is phenomenal.
Ricky Martin is in that movie.
Playing. Playing a little toy.
But that. The music in that movie is incredible and it makes a rewatch ability that much better.
But that is my number three, Jingle Jangle.
What is your number three? Kelton.
[00:51:14] Speaker A: It's a Wonderful Life.
[00:51:16] Speaker B: Great movie.
[00:51:19] Speaker A: I don't think we even have to talk about it anymore because it is a wonderful life.
[00:51:24] Speaker B: I hope you appreciate your life too.
[00:51:26] Speaker A: It does.
Like. Yeah, just remember that people. Just remember number two.
And this is one that actually Kenny was just watching a couple of days ago.
Going back to the crisp year they made awesome cars.
1969 Ford, people. Let's go, baby. Frosty the Snowman.
Back when a little bit of magic out of a magician's hats turns a whole snowman alive. And no, I'm not talking about Olaf, people. The original Frosty, I think that's probably a. Well, I mean, it's up in my top five, so it's got to be one of my favorite Christmas movies.
[00:52:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:52:15] Speaker A: It's just one of the. One of those originals. And that is why I don't go into greenhouses.
So I might melt.
[00:52:26] Speaker B: But oh man, great. That great movie.
[00:52:30] Speaker A: It really is.
So not as quotable, but know.
[00:52:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Funny enough, Kelsey actually showed that movie to Ellie earlier today.
[00:52:43] Speaker A: How did that go?
[00:52:45] Speaker B: I wasn't here, but I think it went well. So funny enough, we call it a movie. It is only 25 minutes long.
[00:52:55] Speaker A: It's a movie.
[00:52:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
And correct me if I am wrong, I doubt it. But okay, I believe.
Isn't there a connection between Frosty the Snowman and Haunted Mansion?
Is it? Maybe the narrator. Is it. The narrator does both.
[00:53:25] Speaker A: Is it the magician? I think it's the magician.
[00:53:31] Speaker B: There's a connection. I can't. I can't remember it right this second, but there is a connection between the two One of the. One of the voice actors is the voice of the host of the Ghost Host. The ghost Host.
[00:53:57] Speaker A: Oh, boy.
[00:53:58] Speaker B: I believe.
I believe so.
But yes. So moving right along, I think.
[00:54:09] Speaker A: Okay. Every time you say moving right along, all I think is Fozzie and Kermit and the Studebaker. Moving right along.
[00:54:21] Speaker B: No, I'm gl. I'm glad I put that in your mind. Time.
[00:54:26] Speaker A: You've done it every time. That's all I sing every time that you do that.
Not that it's bad or anything, but it's just catchy.
Side note. Okay. There you go. Sorry.
[00:54:40] Speaker B: Oh, no, you're good. So my number two is.
It's a classic. It is one of the.
I would say probably the.
Even more than Jim Carrey's the Grinch. One of the most.
Probably the most quotable Christmas movie out there is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
I quote that movie all throughout the year.
[00:55:19] Speaker A: It breaks my heart that it's your number two.
[00:55:23] Speaker B: So, like. Oh, it.
[00:55:26] Speaker A: Oh, no. I lost a portion of my light. Hold on.
[00:55:30] Speaker B: Oh, no.
[00:55:31] Speaker A: I don't know what happened.
Oh, my phone died.
[00:55:39] Speaker B: Do you remember your number one?
[00:55:43] Speaker A: Oh, no, I. I went old school. I wrote it down.
[00:55:46] Speaker B: Okay, I wrote mine down, too.
Yeah, so. I mean, we're talking about National Lampoons.
[00:55:56] Speaker A: She's a beauty.
[00:55:57] Speaker B: She's a beaut, Clark. Now, don't get too attached to that. She's coming with. She's coming with me when we leave come January.
[00:56:05] Speaker A: What is.
I would not. I would not be more surprised if I woke up tomorrow. My head was sewn to the carpet. That I am surprised right now.
[00:56:13] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:56:15] Speaker A: Let's see. Oh, one of my favorites.
Why is the carpet wet, Todd?
[00:56:22] Speaker B: I don't know, Margo.
[00:56:25] Speaker A: Oh, there is so. There's so many.
You know, when the blessing.
[00:56:35] Speaker B: I pledge allegiance to the flag, when.
[00:56:40] Speaker A: Ann Bethany comes in. You shouldn't have done that. Oh, dear. Did I break wind?
You couldn't hear a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant.
[00:56:56] Speaker B: He's like, oh, it's good. A lot of SAP. A lot of SAP.
[00:57:02] Speaker A: Little. Full. A lot of SAP. Full. Looks good.
[00:57:07] Speaker B: It's a tad bit nipply. Nippy out here, huh?
[00:57:13] Speaker A: God, what a. What a great movie. Oh, I.
Kenny, actually. So please don't judge us if we're. If you think we're horrible parents. We did watch that with Kenny. He's seen it, like three or four times this season so far. And the other day, Casey needed to get some things done, so she asked him, you know, hey, buddy, what movie do you want? What Christmas movie do you want to watch? And he said, Christmas vacation. And I'm like, I am so proud.
I love that movie.
And are you okay if I go?
Because we're on number ones.
[00:57:58] Speaker B: We are.
[00:57:58] Speaker A: I mean, so it only makes sense. My number one Christmas movie, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Since we just spent two minutes talking about it, I don't need to say anything else.
[00:58:11] Speaker B: Oh, that just amazing movie.
[00:58:16] Speaker A: I really, I. I strive to be like Clark W. Griswald and lighting up my house to the point where the town has to turn on the auxiliary power.
[00:58:29] Speaker B: Is auxiliary power or nuclear power?
[00:58:32] Speaker A: Nu, I think it's nuclear, but I think it is.
[00:58:35] Speaker B: And seeing his meter spin.
[00:58:39] Speaker A: Electricity just man, so many.
[00:58:45] Speaker B: It's like, yeah, and it's my Christmas bonus.
Got the jam of the month club subscription.
[00:58:58] Speaker A: Jelly.
[00:58:59] Speaker B: Jelly of the month. And that's a gift that just keeps giving all year.
[00:59:05] Speaker A: If you have a favorite, if you're a Christmas vacation fan, let us know what your favorite quote is. What do you quote all year long now, but Brooks, we talked about mine for five minutes now.
What's yours? What is yours?
[00:59:24] Speaker B: So my number one, that beat out Christmas vacation, it was your number nine, Muppets Christmas Carol.
[00:59:37] Speaker A: I mean, I also understand why that. That it is up there on your list is number one.
[00:59:45] Speaker B: I love that movie. So I watch it year round and see and I.
[00:59:52] Speaker A: If you notice, like A Christmas Carol, just the Muppet version was the only one on my list.
Like, it's a. It's a great movie. I just think there are better movies. And please don't cancel me if you disagree. But. And I. The Muppet one is. Is fantastic. It is just one of those movies.
[01:00:14] Speaker B: I mean, and I feel like what makes that movie is Michael Caine.
[01:00:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:21] Speaker B: With his seriousness, he treats all the Muppets as actor, as fellow actors.
Meanwhile, when you get to the Treasure Island.
[01:00:36] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[01:00:38] Speaker B: Tim Curry is he. He is a Muppet himself among Muppets.
You know the. The new Muppet movie where they sing the song, am I a man or am I a Muppet?
Tim Curry was. Tim Curry was a Muppet.
[01:00:59] Speaker A: I.
I think we should, you know, at the end, I think we should ask the people, you know, what's the. What's the top 10? Like, what are the movies you watch all, you know, all Christmas season?
Even if. If your Christmas season starts November 1st. Like, like us in our house or November 25th or the, let's just say Black Friday.
[01:01:24] Speaker B: Most people or does it begin when you go to the pine. The green Pine Grove Town Square, Christmas Eve Festival of Lights Christmas tree decorating contest, finalist gala.
[01:01:39] Speaker A: If it is, let us know.
[01:01:40] Speaker B: Yeah, so I think that just about does it. Didn't we have a trivia question?
[01:01:52] Speaker A: I am so happy that you remembered.
Here it is. I just hit my desk.
The trivia question that was sponsored by the Magic Candle Company.
What year was the first Christmas tree put up in Rockefeller Center?
That's New York City. For those that you know, for you heathens out there who don't watch the Christmas tree lighting because it's almost a tradition, but it was done on Christmas Eve by a bunch of construction workers in the year 1931.
[01:02:33] Speaker B: That's crazy that we are.
[01:02:36] Speaker A: So we're coming up on the 100th anniversary of that in just a few short years.
They better go big. I want to see the tallest tree that they can put in there for the hundredth.
[01:02:51] Speaker B: How much taller can they get?
[01:02:53] Speaker A: I don't know. I think they're up to like 92ft this year. Yeah, something like that.
[01:02:57] Speaker B: So should they go for the hundredth? Go for a hundred foot tree?
[01:03:01] Speaker A: They better.
[01:03:03] Speaker B: That's probably why they hit the triple digits.
[01:03:06] Speaker A: Yeah, hopefully they've been growing that tree for a few years.
[01:03:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:03:12] Speaker A: So.
[01:03:16] Speaker B: Well, I think that does it for our guys night episode. Hopefully we haven't been canceled or people have turned us off when they've seen at least heard my list.
[01:03:31] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm not sure about some of mine either.
[01:03:34] Speaker B: But what is great about this is these are our list.
If you have you have your own list and let us know what it is.
So Mickey has his own list.
[01:03:49] Speaker A: That's what I hear. It's what Kenny tells me anyway.
[01:03:52] Speaker B: Yep.
